MOTHERTONGUE
Contemplating an abortion, a young woman reflects on her estranged relationship with her late mother and her disconnect from her culture.

LENA (she/they) (30s)
-East Asian, Cantonese fluency
Lena is a lonely soul who feels robbed of a cultural community. She is reflective and struggles to make sense of her mother's choices even years after her passing. Despite their festering resentment, all they really want are answers.

ANN (she/her) (40-60s)
-queer, East Asian
Ann is a widow, wife to Lena's late mother. She is sentimental and loving and at times defensive of Lena's mother. She offers Lena wise words and gives them a glimpse into the other world their mother inhabited with her.

GROUNDSKEEPER (she/they) (30-60s)
-BIPOC
The groundskeeper is a humorous and upfront individual. They are curt but astute.
