Golio is designed to help people build a 'gig folio', a work track record. Most information on this site relates to project work and it is not private, it is public. Project work includes information such as due dates and deliverables. However, “personally identifiable information” or “personal data” is hidden, for example, email addresses and billing information. Personal photos and legal names can be posted publically but this is not required. The whole point is to build a public profile. If you want to keep something to yourself do not post it here. In fact we suggest you do not post it anywhere.
Golio allows users to sign in either using an email address and password or using a single-click login associated with their Google profiles. When you register and use Golio, you may provide what is generally called “personally identifiable information” or “personal data” (full name, email address, profile image) that can be used to identify you. Golio profiles are linked to the email of the user and we use this information for authentication purposes. If you decide to register through the Google integrated service, Golio may collect name and email information that is associated with the Google account. Email addresses are not shared with other users unless you take the active step to use Golio to submit invoices. This information is erased when a user closes an account.
Real names are not public unless users want to use them. If a user wishes to be removed we cannot fully delete all records because there are always two people tied to a task (Leader and Contributors). We will change all instances to ‘name removed’ but the feedback stays out of fairness to the counterparties.
Similarly, you do not need to post images or yourself, sharing images is totally optional and they can be removed by the account holder at any point.
All interactions drive the creation of feedback. All feedback, positive and negative, is tracked.
Users are welcome to open new accounts. These accounts start with a blank slate – no hrs, feedback, or $. If you feel your history is holding you back please feel free to start again.
Golio has not found a foolproof way to prevent fake accounts. Even real-live active users may receive fake feedback on fictional projects from friends.
In a profile, you can see how many people a user has collaborated with. If someone is dealing with a large number of people there is less chance of padded feedback.
$ earned is another indicator. We keep the administration fees to a minimum but they exist regardless. This fee is a deterrent from people fabricating fake revenue. If someone is consistently distributing or receiving payments they are likely legitimate.
If a Leader makes claims or promises Golio does not stand behind them. Golio keeps detailed records of any funds that are processed through us, but we have no knowledge of any income outside of what we processed. Please use discretion before you rely heavily on a Leader's claims.
The Leader is responsible for finding the funds for the project. We encourage Leaders to use any means they can: grants, crowdsourcing, ticket sales, t-shirts, etc. The Leader allocated up to 95% of the funding to various tasks and 5% to Golio. These funds are submitted by the Leader through banking bill payment upon closing the project. Golio processes the money. Golio is not accountable for any funds not processed through us.
The Leader is responsible for the funds. These funds are sent by the Leader through banking bill payment upon closing the project. Golio tracks the money. Golio is not accountable for any funds not processed through us. When we see the funds processed Golio creates a record showing the Leader paid their Collaborators.
If the Leader is dishonest and hides funds from the Contributors we strongly suggest the Contributors provide the project owner negative feedback. Golio will not go after a Leader for non-payment. If there is evidence of theft we suggest the Contributors contact the authorities. All records on the project will be made available upon request.
Golio gives you the ability to charge sales tax. Golio does not withhold any income tax outside of our processing fees. If you owe income tax, sales tax, royalties, etc. that is on you. Golio is not your employer. Golio provides a service, distributing money from the Leader to the Contributors and tracks this history. When asked we will turn over our records so please keep your business clean.
Do not try to pass off work that does not belong to you. If it comes to light that any user is passing off other people’s work their own the materials will be removed. We also reserve the rights to publicly mock your pseudonym.
If you have a big project you want help with you should think about investing some time volunteering. Pay-it-forward and all that.
